I admit it. I don't always wake up with enthusiasm for the day. Each morning I post a status on Facebook and I try to make it positive, most days it is easy. I am happy and it flows through my fingers to the keyboard. But there are days when I have faced a disappointment the day before or had a bad night's sleep that I struggle. Today was one of those days. I must have started my status 10 times or more always ending up in a less than desirable spot that required DELETE. As I struggled and deleted the discomfort faded and eventually I was able to look forward.
I finally managed to get something more pleasant out there and it paid off because I found out that my lovely hostess from a Mary Kay party last weekend has some orders for me! So now my mood is much more positive and I am excited to face the rest of the day. I put out positive instead of the uncomfortable negative I felt and was rewarded.
I am by nature a "cup is half full" type of gal but when I am not feeling it, I dig deep down inside and add some more to the cup. If you are feeling like life is a constant struggle and you just can't get ahead try finding one little ounce of joy and put it out there. You will be pleasantly surprised at the results.
Today I am heading to a wonderful Mary Kay event in Albany. I am excited to meet a National Sales Director and see many other Mary Kay Consultants and Directors gathered to learn and grow. Talk about the opportunity to refill my cup!

Being stuck in some routines is a quick road to nowhere. I have spent a few years working in a very well meaning organization that is so entrenched in "The Way We Do Things" that they were not moving forward at all. I love the women that have dedicated themselves to the cause we support but it is time to shake things up. Energy comes from excitement and who can get enthusiastic about the same old same old.
Well I have been pushing to bring some new ideas and new members into the organization and I think that we have finally decided that next year will not be a repeat of this year and the year before that... Not that all the things should be changed but the possibility of changing things up will be addressed and hopefully the organization will become vibrant once again.
The same thing can happen to people. We are so stuck in our current routine and circumstance that we can't see how we can possibly fit another thing in. We are tired and disillusioned and keep plodding along in a ho hum way because that is what we have always done. I would like to suggest that you can still dream and revitalize yourself through changing your circumstances. Taking on a part time career might seem like the last thing you need but I am asking you to consider what you can gain.

You might have noticed that I use the term Skin Care Class when I am discussing a Mary Kay "Party" While we do have options for a variety of themes the main focus of most parties is learning about good skin care. I am passionate about helping women to find a routine that is quick and easy and provides maximum results. The best way to show them how wonderful our products are is to have them sit at a table and try them.
But it's not all serious learning by any means. We have fun at our classes too. After skincare we will have a few laughs with a game or other activity. One of my favorites is the KissPersonality reading. Readings are based on the imprint of your lips after kissing a card. They are amazingly accurate. I have heard it so many times before, I don't wear make up. Well my primary purpose in this business is not to sell make up. I am one of those women who was truly "born" when I became a mother. Though it was almost 21 years ago I still remember the first time I held my son in my arms and thought "I am finally here." I know who I am and what I want to be when I grow up and this is it!
Well then financial realities being what they were made me choose to leave my precious child and find employment outside the home. Through the years that followed and two more children I found a way to bring in income and be at home with them. We owned some multi family properties that got us through and my husband went from self employed to union work which got us that all so important insurance.
When my youngest went to school full time I found it necessary to start to bring in some extra cash and looked high and low for a job that would allow me to be flexible. I still wanted to go on those field trips and be able to stay home when my kids were ill without all the drama of calling in sick to work. I tried working as a sub in the schools then I migrated to Real Estate. I thought it would be a nice part time thing to do but selling real estate is more than full time and full of major drama. Oh I still do it but the economy is changed and the stress has increased.
Then along came Mary Kay. If I only had known about it when they were small! What a great way to supplement the household budget and have fun while you are doing it. Taking time for ourselves is often the last thing we even think about doing. There is so much to do how can we possibly fit in anything else? Well the truth is you will accomplish more if you take some time to relax and enjoy the company of friends.
One great way to relax is to get together with your girlfriends and share a Mary Kay Skin Care event or theme party. All you need to do is pick a date, provide a list of names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses, and get a few snacks together for the night. I take care of sending out invitations, keeping track of the RSVPs, calling everyone on the guest list a few days before the party to make sure they got the invitations and plan to attend, and I bring the "entertainment"! Well that was a nice thing to hear first thing this morning. My husband gets up and heads out the door to work at the crack of early on work days. His alarm goes off, at least three times because he is a fan of the SNOOZE BUTTON (the worst invention ever in my opinion) at 4 something o'clock and he is out the door by 4:30 AM. So this morning he touched my face and said "You know your face is really softer than it used to be."
The amazing thing about this is that just two nights ago I started using the Night Solution from the Mary Kay TimeWise collection. I had been using the day solution for years but had not used the night solution because I thought I had had a reaction to it when I first tried it. Taking time for you is the most important thing you can do right now. We all need to take time for us. Many of us are so busy with school, work, family obligations, and just getting through our never ending to do lists that we forget to stop and reward ourselves. We used to say "if momma ain't happy then nobody is happy" and that is true whether you are a mom or not. The first person you need to care for is yourself then you can give so much more to others and give it happily.
This is not being selfish it is avoiding the trap of being selfless. You can not be happy if you ignore your own needs all the time. By carving out an hour or two to have a relaxing facial by yourself or with a few friends or to host a larger skin care class where we will play games, learn how to pamper ourselves in our daily routines, and just laugh and have a great time, you will be doing everyone who you are trying to work with a favor. As you relax and enjoy you will find energy to do for others. It is truly amazing to find that by stopping the rat race for a few hours you will actually be able to get more done.

I was just thinking about the importance of proper skin care to your overall look. I wonder how many of you have ever baked a cake and had it fall apart when you removed it from the pan but tried to frost it anyway? What you end up with is a crumbly mess instead of a nice smooth frosting on the cake. One of the reasons I became involved in my new Mary Kay business is the opportunity I have to help people celebrate the beauty within. A smile, a kind word, an acknowledgment of someone else's contribution to your life, these things can all make a difference to someone who needs to feel good. And don't we all need to feel good?
The whole process of providing individual attention to each person at a skin care class or to a few people at a facial appointment can be the start of something wonderful in someone's life. We allow ourselves a moment in the crazy run around life we have to do something fun and relaxing for ourselves.
